History

Founded in 1999, the Media Arts program provides students with a cutting-edge experience that prepares them for a future in film, television and emerging media.  Classes are held in the 2600 square foot Media Arts Lab which houses a live broadcast studio and digital post-production facilities.

Courses

Broadcast Journalism: students produce a live newscast broadcast twice a week


Video Production emphasizes film-style production, criticism and etiquette, including narratives, documentaries, experimental and music videos.

Faculty Advisor:  Michael Hernandez


Mr. Hernandez earned his MFA in film production from Loyola Marymount and has been teaching at Mira Costa since 1999. 


He was recently selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator for 2009, one of only 52 teachers nationwide chosen for this honor.
